Love...

This week our assignment was to do a story on "love." I ended up shooting a couple living in Bowling Green Retirement Village who have been married for sixty one years. Unfortunately they take many spontaneous trips to see their grand kids in Nashville, so the time I spent with them this week was brief. The photos of them in crowns and sashes are from the retirement home's Valentine's day dance where they were crowned king and queen. It had to be the cutest thing I've ever seen.

Coach Mom

This is my first picture story of the semester. Jessica Coulter is a new mom and has coached pee-wee basketball for seven years. I tried to capture her rough side on the court and how it contrasts with her gentle maternal side at home with her daughter.

New Semester, New Stories

Well, here it goes. I'm a little embarrassed to express to cyberspace how much anxiety I have felt toward this new semester. Lighting was fun and easy and full of experimenting. Now that I have approached picture stories, I'm not only facing all of my weakest areas in photography, but also facing the reality that being an actual photojournalist is in the cards at this point. At first I was terrified of this class based on all the horror stories floating around the lab, but two stories into it I feel pretty good. I feel like I'm challenging myself and improving the more I shoot. I'm excited about fixing my weak areas. I guess the best thing to do with fear is embrace it. Or at least try.
